Recently I was struck by a memory from my 8th grade year. My teacher was giving an impassioned speech to a room of distracted 13-14 year olds, attempting to drive home the idea that the course of our lives was not something to take for granted. It was not something that would just materialize according to our expectations, but that it was a very real result of the choices we make in any moment. It is the little choices day to day that shape who we are, and the life we lead.

Now 20 years later, as I recall that impassioned plea to realize the power of choice and our responsibility for the choices we make in life, as a timely reminder for all of us.

One of the things I’ve learned through the study of metaphysics is that everything starts with our Mind. We may not be able to choose our circumstances or our emotions, but one thing we have absolute control over is the attitude we choose to approach life.

Furthermore, humans are incredibly good at manifesting – we have HUGE power to shape our life and the world around us, but the results of that manifestation isn’t always good. It’s up to us to take responsibility for our power and CHOOSE to act in a way that brings greater good into the world.

We are responsible for both the choices we make, and the ones we don’t. How often are we operating in a sort of autopilot, choosing the path of least resistance to navigate through life? Getting comfortable in routines even though they may not be delivering the results we want to see?

One of the silver-linings of the current pandemic is that through this major disruption, we have an opportunity to strip away so much of that autopilot activity, and start to ask ourselves: what is important in life?

We can strip everything down to the foundation, and start to reflect on: what are the seeds I want to plant in this garden of life?

From a metaphysical perspective, we recognize that our individual lives are a microcosm, reflecting the macrocosm, and vice versa. This is seen in the Hermetic Principle of Correspondence, which gives us “As above, so below. As within, so without.”

Our choices matter. If I want to see a more balanced world, we must ask ourselves, do I have balance in my life? If I want to see good things happening in my community, what actions am I taking to create that?

My hope in this moment is that we don’t “go back to normal” but rather reinvent ourselves with a stronger foundation, and we will direct the current moment toward something good.

It truly is a potent time to reflect on these questions. To draw up a vision for a new way forward, and step into action with it. To reach out and connect with others who can be on your team, united in creating a stronger foundation for each of us as individuals and as a global community!

“It is by Will alone, I set my Mind in motion!”

This is a choice we may make and affirm each day. If we abdicate our responsibility, we give our power away to unconscious programming and external forces to direct our course. If we want to create something better, it’s up to us to harness the power of our Mind, make that choice, and follow through with action!

How do we get started?

The Power of Asking Questions

When we ask a question, we create a container to receive an answer. This may seem simple, but there is real power in this. Learning to ask the right questions equips us with tools to navigate life with greater awareness.

We may not be able to control what happens in life, but we do have the ability to choose how we respond to it. Below are some questions we can ask ourselves to empower the choices we’re making in this moment.

I recommend taking a few deep breaths, relaxing your body, relaxing your mind, and having a journal nearby as you ask yourself these questions:

  • What is my goal for this moment in time?
  • What actions can I take that support that goal?
  • What habits/routines do I have that do not support that goal?

With this awareness we can realize if the choices we’re making are supporting us or getting in the way of our desired outcome. Realize you have the power to chart your course through whatever situation you’re facing. There is always a choice, and your greatest tool is the power of your Mind! Harness it and you can truly create miracles.
